INTRODUCING ‘SCOUNDRELS’

It’s finally time, folks.

After 3 years of navigating the best way to bring this story to the masses, as the original creator I’m incredibly proud to share that SCOUNDRELS is now be told as a 9-issue comic book series— serving as the debut of my all-new, independent comic studio, Starview Comics.

Billy June is more than just your typical criminal enforcer. After his brother, Clyde — a member of the Syndicate himself — is presumed dead, Billy's dream of moving to California with his girlfriend Alice falls apart. Drowning in his family's financial responsibilities, he's left with no choice but to turn to the very criminal organization that he suspects may have killed his brother. He always admired the stories Clyde shared about his time in the Syndicate, so if he could at least get closer to the truth and make a quick buck in the process? Well that's alright for Billy.

While SCOUNDRELS is packed with a lot of high octane, visceral action; at the center of it all is a character story about relationships and choices. A study on the negative effects of idolatry and how choosing the wrong role models can only lead to self-sabotage and destruction, even in the pursuit of liberation.

SCOUNDRELS is that classic and maybe even familiar tale of getting into something that on the surface seems attractive only to realize it's not at all what you thought it was. While we all want to live the hero's journey and be that main character, what happens when that's taken too far?

For those who may be new to Starview, firstly hello! Thank you for taking a chance and even being here to read this. Please join me on this walk down memory lane as I recount the journey of SCOUNDRELS to where we are now.

3 years ago I starting writing a story that take me on a creative journey I never could’ve anticipated.

Comics were the first medium I expressed my passion for storytelling through going way back to when I was in 2nd grade. As I got older and as my artistic taste began to “mature” it led to me falling in love with other mediums of storytelling, specifically movies. A big catalyst of my love of film (and funnily enough juxtaposing one of the draws of comics) was that these stories often felt more impactful which is something I wholeheartedly attribute to the fact that these were contained and finite. 3 hours navigating these crazy worlds right alongside the even crazier characters that existed as a result. One film that greatly impacted me was Do The Right Thing by Spike Lee. While of course the racial commentary within that film was incredibly sharp and poignant, the biggest takeaway from me was the slow, almost kettle-esque, burn that the movie follows. The film feels like the most pleasant ticking time bomb until the bomb actually explodes and you see what was really at stake.

It was early on in my tenure as a filmmaker that I began writing Blair Winston’s SCOUNDRELS which was my attempt to capture all those aforementioned elements of storytelling in film that I loved— to achieve that level of grandiose story with a relative slow burn but an epic and striking conclusion. That modus operandi became the beating heart of it’s development. Initially the story’s scope seemed achievable to pull off as an independent film with enough creativity, dedicated crew, and elbow grease. However as I continued to peel back the layers of the story I was building and the level of scale needed to convincingly get the story across, I realized that I’d only be diminishing the final quality of this story by cutting corners trying to lower the budget or tone down certain elements.

I believe storytelling in any form is a harmonious composition of human elements that work in synchronicity to guide the audience to an emotional conclusion. If any of those elements is done incorrectly or not given enough attention, it can greatly bottleneck stories even those with the utmost potential. I knew if I was putting my name on something, I did not want to compromise on any element of that composition process.

So the film got canned. But I didn’t give up. I took time to travel and found myself studying abroad in Japan, where I rediscovered my love for manga and comic culture. This in turn led to what I can only call a creative rebirth, revealing to me once more the potential of the initial medium that got me into storytelling to begin with.

The most appealing thing for me about comics was that canvas. With the blank canvas, you the artist create every element of the story, precisely choosing what to include and what not to include. What to emphasize and what to deemphasize. The culmination of these revelations was an epiphany so clear it left no room for confusion: SCOUNDRELS was to be a comic.

So here I am today, nearly 2 years after releasing the film’s proof of concept, humbled to finally say— SCOUNDRELS is officially coming out, as a comic book series.

9 issues. Issue 1 releases digitally this summer on June 2nd, 2026 on GlobalComix.

There will be a Kickstarter launching on April 20th where you’ll have a chance to help support production. We’ll be offering merch, digital products, and some exclusive BTS content showing how myself and my partner @j.vidal_ went about bringing this from film to comic.

Thank you for watching, especially thank you for those who have chosen to support.
